Premier League action saw West Ham’s hopes of gaining some respite from relegation woes fizzle on Saturday (June 20) as they succumbed to two late goals by Wolves, while Crystal Palace pulled off a 2-0 win away to Bournemouth to give Jordan Ayew the record as Ghana’s top goalscorer in the Premier League.
It wasn’t until the last 17 minutes that Wolves found a way through a compact West Ham defensive set-up and it was substitutions the changed the game. Wolves called Adama Traore from the bench and his perfectly weighted cross found Raul Jimenez at the far post to head in for the first goal. Wolves’ second was even better, as Matt Doherty’s deep cross was thrashed home by Pedro Neto, another late sub, on the volley from 15 yards out.
Wolves had only had one good chance until that time, when Pablo Fornals saw his effort go over the bar with the keeper at his mercy.
In the day’s final game, Milijevicic scored a rasping freekick in the 12th minute to put Palace ahead before Jordan Ayew added the second in the 23rd minute, to earn Palace a vital victory at the Vitality Stadium.
Ayew’s goal was his 25th in the Premier League, breaking fellow Ghanaian Tony Yeboah’s previous record of 24.
