Cameroonian goalkeeper Charles Tambe was shot by unknown assailants in the Nigerian southwest town of Ibadan on Friday, it has been reported.
Tambe, who plays for Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Abia Warriors, was attacked in the morning of Friday while on a routine road workout in the neighbourhood of Apata in Ibadan.
The former Lobi Stars goalkeeper was reportedly shot in the arm by one of the assailants before they made away with his wrist-watch and mobile telephone, according to a statement released by Abia Warriors on Friday.
“The player was observing his morning workout at 7:00 am on Friday morning in Apata area of Ibadan where he stays with his family during the break. The hoodlums approached and collected his wrist watch, handset and shot him on the hand,” part of the statement revealed.
The custodian as at noon (local time in Nigeria) was still at the University Teaching Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan receiving treatment.
The incident is just a day away from the goalkeeper’s 26th birthday.
