Atlético Madrid have a chance to crawl out of the shadows of their neighbors, Real Madrid when they get their FIFA Club World Cup campaign under way in the United States of America but they have their work cut out against Uefa Champions League winners, PSG

However, Atlético have often been the main challenger of the long running hegemony of Real and Barcelona, and mostly running them close. 

The Club World Cup offers them a great chance to try and win something big with Barcelona missing despite ending the season as League champions and Real Madrid having a poor season by their high standards despite finishing second.

Atlético Madrid qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as one of the top-ranked UEFA teams. With their strong squad and experienced manager Diego Simeone, they are expected to be competitive
