The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) chairperson, Aisha Falode has announced the demotion of two Premiership sides, Adamawa Queens and Heartland Queens to the NWFL second tier league, Championship.
The duo failed to heed a Tuesday, December 1, second deadline for erring clubs to meet club licensing and registration requirements.
The NWFL had offered five clubs a lifeline beyond an initial compliance deadline excluding them from the forthcoming 2020/2021 NWFL Premiership, due to commence on December 9.
Falode noted that representatives of Adamawa Queens and Heartland Queens failed to show up during the extension of deadline formalities.
“Officials from Sunshine Queens, Ibom Angels and Dream Stars of Lagos showed up at the NWFL Secretariat in Abuja for their club’s licensing and registration after the board bowed to pressure from all and sundry.
“Sunshine Queens and Ibom Angels were cleared with the clearance of Dream Stars pending due to incomplete documentation.
“Hopefully the Lagos team would be cleared before midnight of today.
“As it is at the moment we have 14 NWFL Premiership clubs, while two – namely Heartland and Adamawa – have been confirmed for relegation to play in the NWFL Championship season,” said Falode.
The NWFL Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mrs. Faith Ben-Anuge said in Abuja that with the current situation the NWFL Secretariat will hold a fresh draws for the 14 clubs to play in the 2020 NWFL Premiership straight league which officially kicks off on Wednesday, December 09, 2020.
