Amoo backs Golden Eaglets to come good

Head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 football team, Fatai Amoo has backed his charges to bounce back into the reckoning, following their underwhelming start at the WAFU B U-17 tournament in Togo.

The five-time world champions lost their opening game 0-1 to the Ivory Coast to dampen hopes of a successful tournament. Amoo noted, however, that the game against the Ivoirians was not an easy one but backed his youngsters to return to winning ways as they shape up to face Ghana in their second game of the competition.
“It was a very difficult game for my boys”, Amoo said. “This is due to the fact that they are in a situation where a lot of them have not had this type of opportunity before.
“And as a result, they were a bit jittery even though we played against a more formidable side given the preparation.”

The veteran trainer added that mistakes were made in the first game and that he has analyzed the situation with a view to correcting them in the future.
“I will not say my boys are not good (as) they can really do better.
“All the mistakes and errors we have noticed, we will go back and do the necessary corrections before the next game.”

The Golden Eaglets face Ghana on Saturday (January 9), in a match which will reignite the intense rivalry between the two footballing nations.
