The draw for the group stage of the 2020-21 CAF Champions League will be held on Friday, with the ceremony due to
start at 17h00 GMT at the Caf headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
Sixteen clubs are still in the running in this season’s edition of Africa’s Premier club competition and they will know their fate as regards group stage opponents on Friday.
The sixteen clubs have been seperated into four pots. No two teams from the same pot can be group together after the draw.
Pot one comprises four clubs that have won the competition a staggering 20 times.
Egyptian club, Al Ahly are the reigning champions and have claimed the top diadem on nine occasions while Wydad Athletic from Morocco and Tunisian giants, Espérance, the second and third teams in pot 1 have been crowned African champions on two and four occasions respectively. The final team in the first pot, TP Mazembe from Congo DR have won the title on five previous occasions and many sides in the second, third and fourth pots will be looking to avoid the club from Lubumbashi in the group stage.
The most successful club in pot two is Zamalek SC. With five Champions League titles to their name, the White Knights strike fear into the hearts of many an opposition side due to numerous successes recorded in previous years – which includes one CAF Confederation Cup title and four CAF Super Cup triumphs. Mamelodi Sundowns, AC Horoya and AS Vita club are the other sides in pot two.
Pot three is comprised of Petro Atletico, Simba SC, Al Hilal and MC Alger while the final pot is made up of Kaizer Chiefs, Al Merrikh, CR Belouizdad and Teungueth FC.
