SSC Napoli Sporting Director, Cristiano Giuntoli has stated that the club’s centre half, Kalidou Koulibaly will not be sold at a reduced price to any of his many suitors.
European clubs are expected to spend conservatively on player transfers in upcoming windows as a result of the unforeseen suspension of the football season which has translated to limited revenue for clubs.
There is also the financial uncertainty caused by the outbreak which many believe could force some chairmen to sell their best players and balance the books.
Giuntoli has however insisted that his club will not be lowering their asking price for Koulibaly, who is contracted at Stadio San Paolo until 2023.
“Kalidou is a great player, who still has a long contract with us,” Giuntoli said.
“If we were to sell, the club could ask for a large sum. A player like this cannot change his value even in a crisis, so we are not moving our valuation,” he added.
Koulibaly has made 21 appearances this term after winning the Serie A Best Defender award in 2018-19 and his performances have also attracted interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Mnachester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been a long-time admirer of the Senegal international, but the Red Devils may be forced to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.
The club recorded a pre-tax loss of £28.55million between 1 January and 31 March, compared with a £11.117m pre-tax profit in the same period last year.
Taking those figures into account, United will have to be more frugal when the window opens and may look to offload players on the fringes of the first team.
