Lobi Stars’ attacking midfielder, Chukwuka Onuwa has described top-flight side, Dakkada FC as the toughest opponents in the five-week old Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Pride of Benue sweated to their panties before overcoming the Uyo side 2-1 in Sunday’s NPFL matchday 5 clash at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.
Samuel Mathias and Austin Ogunye accounted for the Makurdi side goals while Christian Ekong contributed the consolation for the Uyo side.
Onuwa said his side were happy picking the whole three points at the end of the energy-sapping encounter.
“We knew that the clash will not be an easy one given the pedigree of the opponents, Dakkada FC.
“I think we have just witnessed our toughest opponents in the five-week old Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
“We now understand better why the opponents have been unbeaten prior to coming to Makurdi.
“Dakkada FC are good side and we will not forget in a hurry the torment they gave us in this match.
“However, we are happy to have marched them in every department to earn the maximum points in the clash.
“The goal margin could have been wider if we had profited from all the many chances at goal.
“The hard fought victory is a morale booster as we look forward to another tougher encounter against neighbours, Enugu Rangers next Sunday in Enugu.
“We are positive that the outcome of our immediate past two matches will help us greatly to contest for the points at Rangers,” said the former MFM FC and Enyimba goal poacher.
Lobi Stars are third on the 20-team top-flight log on 10 points two behind league leaders, Rivers United.
