Rivers United will face South African club, Bloemfontein Celtic on for a play in the playoff round of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The Nigerians won the first leg 2-0 away from home and are heavy favourites to progress to the next stage after Saturday’s second leg at the Game day at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium, Porto Novo.
Eguma has however warned that the game may be a tricky one especially as it will not be played at United’s traditional home ground, the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
“When you play at a neutral venue, especially against a team as good as Celtic, you must be ready to work hard for 90 minutes,” Eguma told SPNAfricaNews. “We may have won the first leg 2-0 but we will not underrate the opponents as we know there is still everything to play for in the second leg.”
Rivers United have been peerless in the Nigeria Professional Football League this term.
The Port Harcourt club have won four of their opening five games of the campaign and currently sit top of the table.
Eguma says their good form domestically should serve as a tonic for good performances on the continent.
“We have started well in the (Nigerian) league and have only failed to win one game (away to) Wikki Tourists,” he said. “Getting good results in the league helps in building confidence.
“It was important for us to bounce back after that defeat against Wikki Tourists and win against Heartland FC.
“Now, we must consolidate on those performances and get a result against Celtic.
“It will be a very tough game but we know what we are expected to do.”
