Enyimba striker, Victor Mbaoma has said that he is placing his side’s victory against visiting Burkina Faso champions, Rahimo FC, as a priority – above any personal glory.
The Nigerian champions will confront Rahimo in Sunday’s Caf Champions League second leg preliminary round at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
The Nigerian campaigners pipped the Burkinabe side with one unanswered goal in a first-leg fixture clash on Sunday (November 29) at the 60,000-seater Stade du 4 Aout in Ouagadougou, with substitute Mbaoma the scorer on that occasion.
Mbaoma said his side has a lot of work to do to be able to overcome the hard-fighting Burkinabe side on Sunday in Aba.
“Actually, I will not like to put myself under undue pressure concerning scoring or not, my main concern is for us to win the clash, if I have the opportunity to score that will be good and fine with me but the most important thing for me is for us to win.
“The task is not in any way easy even with the one goal win advantage so we all know there is a lot of work to be done for us to achieve the lofty dream.
“We understand that the one goal win advantage is cancellable that is why we are not resting on our oars until the overall success is achieved.
“The guys from Rahimo FC are not cheap but very good and solid side, they created chances in the first leg.
“They are capable of ruffling feathers so we just have to be very careful with them so as to avoid the unexpected.
“The one goal win over there in Ouagadougou is not enough so we will come all out to get the goals that will help us to finish the task.
“We are determined to finish the work in Aba on Sunday without leaving anything to chance,” said the former Remo Stars goal poacher.
Mbaoma however rued the absence of their usually teeming and vociferous fans in the stands on Sunday, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“It’s a kind of terrible but we have decided to cope with the reality but focused instead on giving them victory,” said Mbaoma.
Victory for the two-time African champions in Sunday’s game will see them progress to the first round of Africa’s prime inter-club competition.
