Pelican Stars head coach, Olaleke Muritala Sanusi has promised a “best ever” performance from his wards in their upcoming match against Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership newcomers, Royal Queens.
The Calabar landladies are host of the Warri side in Wednesday’s NWFL Premiership matchday 5 clash at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
Prior to the NWFL Premiership one month hiatus to allow teams to be on same page on COVID-19 protocols, the Calabar side were pummeled 1-5 by FC Robo Queens in Lagos while the Warri outfit pipped Osun Babes 1-0 in matchday 4 clash in Warri.
Sanusi said his side have done their homework well during the break and are motivated to go all-out against the visitors to claim their first victory in the four-week old top-flight.
“Of course, you should expect the best ever performance from my players against Royal Queens in Wednesday’s matchday 5 matchup.
“We have used the one month break to perfect our homework, rest and the players are roaring to go.
“The state government has equally done the needful in terms of motivation so the players are expected to reciprocate the good gestures of government.
“Everyone should expect the best performance that will see us grab our first victory in the four-week old league.
“Our target is nothing less than outright and convincing victory that will help us start the climb out from the bottom.
“I’m not putting any pressure on the players and nobody is putting them under undue pressure to perform, we will leave them with the liberty to be natural and normal, I know they will deliver the goods,” said Sanusi.
The Calabar side gaffer said that though he does not know much about the opponents, he will pay them due respect as Premiership side.
“Firstly, I recognise them as Premiership side and it’s a common knowledge that there is no pushovers so we will accord them due respect.
“However, I do not have much information about them except when we played them in Kogi but I know a lot must have changed in the team.
“Expect the best match irrespective of what they throw at us, we will be equal to the task and three points will be assured,” Sanusi enthused.
Pelican Stars are rooted at the bottom of the 14-team NWFL Premiership log on poorly one point 11 behind league leaders, Bayelsa Queens.
