Harry Kane’s goal, Schmeichel penalty save, Tuesday PL highlights

Harry Kane scored the second goal for Tottenham as Spurs beat West Ham 2-0 to move up to seventh, leaving the Hammers just above the relegation zone on goals difference; as the Leicester and Brighton game ended goaless.

Kasper Schmeichel was the hero for Leicester on Tuesday (June 23) after saving Neal Maupay’s penalty.

Schmeichel dived to his right to stop Maupay’s spot-kick early in the first half at the King Power Stadium to deny Brighton’s hero from their big win at home last weekend.

That proved to be the key highlight of Brendan Rodgers’ 50th game in charge. It was enough to keep Leicester four points ahead of fourth placed Chelsea and nine more than Manchester United I fifth.

In the second game, West Ham Defender, Soucek scored an own goal in the 64th minute for Tottenham’s first goal before Harry Kane scored the second to earn a big win for Spurs.

It was a return that takes Kane now to 137 goals in 200 appearances. He was delighted and told Sky Sports:

“It’s good but it can always be better. 200 games it goes so quick. The years fly by and you have to make the most of it. I’m still only 26 so hopefully I can get to that 200 mark sooner rather than later and go from there.”

He added further that:”As a striker you want to score goals and help win the game. It was a tough game, we had a few chances and it was nice to finish it off at the end.

“When you’ve been out for over six months it’s about getting that feeling back on the pitch. I should’ve scored one other but it’s nice to put that one away.

“I’m in good shape. I’ve been working very hard. I feel as good as I’ve ever done.”

Kane also talked about going so many games without a goal:

“I’m someone, whether I score or not, I’m ready for the next one, it doesn’t bother me too much. Scoring is the best feeling in the world.”

Kane’s teammate, Eric Dier was happier after his mistakes in the last game cost Tottenham two points against Manchester United.

“It was really pleasing, especially after the Manchester United game when we felt we deserved more from the game. We started slow but grew into the game and the second half was a lot better.

“We were a bit cagey and slow in the first 25 minutes but we needed to play quicker. West Ham were well organised but we felt they would tire. We know what to expect, they would come here and sit back and counter attack.

“As we got better we passed the ball quicker. It’s a strange feeling because before lockdown we weren’t in good form but we have been working very hard. We have felt positive in the restart and hopefully that continues.

“Champions League is the aim. We knew if we didn’t win tonight it might be too far.”
