Totalsports has announced an impressive incentive to the value of R500 000 (R250 000 in the men’s race and R250 000 in the women’s race) should the Ultra record be broken in the Open Category of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon this coming Sunday, 17 April.

“We are proud to add a record incentive to what is already going to be an exciting race on Sunday,” says Totalsports Head of Business Jonathan Stein. “Totalsports is a firm believer in the unifying power of running and our investment is a celebration of the enduring spirit of runners everywhere, in overcoming the challenges of the past two years. We believe that effort must be rewarded and will be holding thumbs that a new men’s and women’s Ultra record will be set on Sunday.”

“We are both excited and proud to be able to offer such an impressive record incentive in 2022,” says Debra Barnes, Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon Race Director. “The incentive would not have been possible without the valued support that we’ve received from our title sponsor, Totalsports. We are proud to have a leading retail sports apparel brand in our corner as we prepare to host the world’s most beautiful marathon this coming weekend.”

“The goal of the prize incentive is to encourage the elite field to really give it their all on Sunday,” continues Barnes. “We wish each and every entrant all the best for the weekend. Thank you for your support. To the elites, you’ve put in the work, show us that you have what it takes to break the record.”

The current Men’s Ultra record is 03:03.44 and was set by Thompson Magawana in 1988, while the Women’s Ultra record is 03:30.36 and was set by Frith van der Merwe in 1989.For more information on the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon, visit www.twooceansmarathon.org.za
