Kaizer Chiefs fail to go six points clear

Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday (August 12) failed to capitalize on Sundowns draw with Orlando Pirates earlier in the week as Bidvest Wits held them to a 1-1 draw. The result against the “Students” denied them the chance to take a six-point lead at the top of the Absa Premiership.

Kaizer Chiefs scored first in the 36th minute through Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic with a headed goal and they put on a good show despite a lack of games due to the long lockdown. Chiefs dominated for most of the game until Cole Alexander equalized for Wits in the 89th-minute.

Nurkovic almost took a double with an effort that struck the crossbar towards the end but Wits held on tenaciously to deny Chiefs and leave them four points ahead of Sundowns rather than the six-point cushion they would have preferred, with defending champions Sundowns enjoying a game in hand.
