Kwara Utd in no hurry to surrender Nigeria league summit

Kwara United central defender, Monsuru Bashiru has said his side are in no hurry to surrender their newly found summit position in the on-going Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Harmony Boys climbed to the NPFL summit for the first time in the 10-week old top-flight after their matchday 10 clash with Dakkada FC. Kwara delivered three unanswered goals to spank visitors, Dakkada FC at the Kwara State Stadium in llorin.

Bashiru pushed aside the notion that their matchday 10 opponents, Dakkada FC were weak, arguing that his side have just discovered their full potential and strength.

“We are not in a hurry to relinquish the topmost position though we are not bragging about it at the moment.

“The league is still at the elementary stage having just witnessed week 10 matches so it looks quite early in the day to make any claim.

“Such assertion may be misconstrued as looking down on other teams but I believe if we continue the way we are going at the moment we could as well finish the campaign on the first or second position.

“Right now our confidence is fully back, we now create chances and score goals with ease, without struggling.

“The three goals scoreline against Dakkada FC is our biggest win so far in the on-going league.

“Of course, that does not make Dakkada FC a cheap side, they are very good and enterprising side.

“Everybody knows that there is no cheap side in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

“I think we have got our act right and the momentum is quite high and we are determined to make the best out of it,” said the former MFM FC strongman.

Bashiru commended the league body, League Management Company (LMC) for ending a win-at-home syndrome in the NPFL.

“LMC has done creditably well by several measures it puts in place to open the league to all the competitors.

“Days are gone in the league when going to another team’s home ground is like going to a slaughter ground.

“Today, team can win anywhere once you prepare adequately, now the must-win-at-home factor has completely vanished.

“Our league is almost on par with what obtains in Europe and other advanced leagues, this is a big plus to the league body,” said the former Lobi Stars’ hard as nail defender.

The llorin side are at the summit of the 20-team top-flight log on 21 points, the same as second-placed challengers, Enyimba but on superior goal numbers – though the Aba side have a match at hand.
