German club, Bayer Leverkusen say they have no intentions of selling off prized asset Kai Havertz this summer, despite strong interest from a host of big clubs across Europe.
It has been reported that Premier League club, Chelsea are preparing to launch a transfer bid for the 20-year-old midfielder.
The Blues, who are also expected to seal a £53m deal for RB Leipzig centre forward Timo Werner when the transfer window opens, have also made no secret of their desire to snap up young wide talent to replace the outgoing Brazilian Willian and Spaniard Pedro.
The £75m-rated Havertz has been identified as a star who fits the bill but the Blues know they face stiff competition from a host of top European clubs, also keen admirers of the star who has netted five goals in his last four games for Leverkusen.
Leverkusen’s sporting director, Rudi Voller said the club was hopeful Havertz would stay on at the North Rhine-Westphalia club.
“We haven’t given up hope that he’ll stay with us,” Voller told ARD.
“We try to give him every possibility that he can call up his qualities.
“He did an outstanding job in the second half of the season,” Voller said.
Havertz is enjoying a brilliant season with Bayer – scoring 15 goals in 38 games across all competitions for the German club to date. His performances have helped propel the club to fifth in the Bundesliga – level on points (56) with fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach and just three behind third-placed RB Leipzig.
