Swedish coach Freddie Ljungberg has left his role as first team assistant at Arsenal.
Ljungberg, who is leaving to pursue a career in management, was Arsenal’s interim head coach for a period last season after the dismissal of former Arsenal manager, Unai Emery.
He was also part of Mikel Arteta’s coaching team after the appointment of the Spaniard but even though he was fully involved in training, he never joined the coaching staff on the bench on match days, as he instead he observed from the stands, providing feedback, particularly after games.
Ljungberg was linked this month, with the vacant manager’s job at Swedish side AIK, and has made no secret of the fact that he wants a managerial job of his own.
The Swede spoke about his decision and also wished current head coach, Arteta success at the Emirates.
“I wish Mikel and all the team every success for the season ahead. Thanks also to the fans for their constant support and for always being by my side. I hope we will all meet again soon,” he said.
“I have decided to leave my first-team assistant coaching role at Arsenal to progress my management experience”.
