Ndidi “RAGE” Alonu is the winner of Season One of the African Knockout Show (AKO).

The African Knockout Show, Season 1 closed with as much fanfare as it started and the final Mixed Martial Art bout delivered all the punches the show had promised.

After nine weeks of rigorous training, celebrity visits, exciting challenges, drama, emotions, wins and losses, the quest to finding the mixed martial arts champion in Nigeria ended with a winner whose skills and drive impressed a nation – and a wider audience across the continent.

After Segun “Machine Gun” Ogunnoiki and Thompson “Marine Boxer” Cornell had slugged it out for the 3rd position, Ogunnoiki walked away with a 2 million Naira cash prize and a professional contract presented by Akin Akinsola from AIICO Insurance PLC.

For the most anticipated fight of the night, however, Ndidi “Rage” Alonu went up against Daniel “Big Shark” Emeka. After 3 rounds which ended with a tie, the fighters went on to an extra round was used as a tie-breaker to pick the winner. It was clearly a battle of champions, with both fighters determined to win at all costs. Rage finally unleashed his namesake emotion to win by a close margin.


Akindolire Oludamole, Managing Director of Alphamead Development Company presented the 2nd position prize of 4 million Naira to Big Shark, amidst much jubilation.

Ndidi Alonu walked away with a 6 million Naira cash prize, a Geely car and a 100,000 US dollar international contract with Brave Combat Federation. His prize was presented by the CEO of Landmark Africa Group, Paul Onwuanibe. A brand new Mikano vehicle was also presented to him by Firas Mamlouk, Managing Director, Mikano International Limited and Sola Aiyepeku, Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission.

The independently produced show, billed as Africa’s first truly local sports reality show, was broadcast on SuperSport and streamed across the continent. It’s success is likely to have a dramatic impact on investment in locally-financed content production.
