Nigeria qualify for Africa Cup of Nations

Nigeria’s Super Eagles qualified for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday (March 27) without kicking a ball after their group rivals, Lesotho and Sierra Leone played out a 0-0 draw at the Setsotho Stadium, Maseru.

The result put Nigeria – with eight points from four matches – out of reach of their rivals in Group L of the 2021 AFCON qualifying stage. The bottom two sides in the section, Sierra Leone and Lesotho have amassed four and three points respectively and can no longer hope to catch Nigeria, irrespective of her results in the final two games of qualifying.

Nigeria will face Benin Republic later on Saturday in their penultimate game in qualifying before rounding off their campaign against Lesotho on March 30 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. The Super Eagles will finish as group winners with a game to spare if they defeat Benin at the Stade Charles de Gaulle, Porto-Novo on Saturday.
