Kwara United attacking midfielder, Stephen Adah has called for decisions over which teams should be declared winners and which the losers of the suspended Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) to be made on the pitch rather than in boardrooms.
While Adah’s side is stuck near the bottom of the league, he said it was unlikely there would be relegations this season if the league remained suspended.
The NPFL was halted after matchday 25 in March, due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Adah was also confident that, in the event of a restart, the llorin outfit would overcome their challenges in the remaining 13 matches on the season’s calendar.
“Of course, I will rather want champions declared on the pitch, the same as teams that would be relegated.
“The authorities must avoid the temptation of reaching those critical decisions through the boardroom.
“I will always favour the completion of the suspended top-flight once the coast is clear for league to restart.
“However, I’m confident that whatever decision the authorities takes will be in our favour, will be good enough to keep us in the premiership.
“Though no news yet whether or not to restart the league or how the suspended league will end we are not bothered.
“I’m not worried notwithstanding the fact that we are still rooted at the relegation zone at the moment.
“If the league eventually resumes we have 13 matches to fight for to stay out of trouble water and keep our position in the top-flight.
“But if the league ends as it is at the moment that means we will still keep our position as there will not be any promotion from the lower league – Nigeria National League (NNL).
“Of course, nobody will want to promote teams from the lower league after mere five-round of matches.
“Even if the authorities want other leagues to be completed as being speculated we still have nothing to worry about.
“Whatever forms the decision takes with the renewed spirit and right motivation we will avoid relegation at the end of the day,” said the former Enugu Rangers and FC IfeanyiUbah goal poacher.
The llorin side are currently sitting in 19th place in the 20-team league, on a paltry 28 points – 21 behind league leaders, Plateau United.
