Warri Wolves head coach Evans Ogenyi says he is not worried about his future and insists he is giving his maximum to turn around the fortunes of the club.
Wolves are currently a place off the bottom of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) standings with 13 points from their first 13 games of the season. The Seasiders dropped two points in their last home game, a 1-1 draw against Enyimba in Ozoro.
The result did nothing to relieve the pressure on Ogenyi, who remains remarkably sunguine considering the present situation.
“We scored first against Enyimba and one of my players was red-carded,” Ogenyi told reporters. “Enyimba exploited the numerical disadvantage and scored with the last kick of the first half.
“We tried to come back into the game and garner the three points (at stake) but football is an unpredictable game. Also, Enyimba is no pushover. As Nigeria’s remaining representative on the continent this season, they showed they are a well-prepared side.
“Our position is very bad and we needed the three points to push up the ladder. I however want to give my players kudos for distinguishing themselves against a strong side like Enyimba.”
He then addressed speculation about his future at the club.
“As a professional, whatever comes your way is not a death sentence,” he added. “I am not under pressure (at Wolves). I am a top professional coach.
“To the best of my knowledge, I have done my bit. I have been trying to steer the ship and even of you speak to the players, they will tell you I have been trying to manage the team until the (transfer) window is open and we can strengthen the team with quality players.
“I’ve been able to tinker the players to this level and have done my best as a professional. So whatever comes my way, whatever happens, is not a death sentence.
“I will appreciate it and move on with my life.”
