Sunshine Stars’ manager, Gbenga Ogunbote has poured encomium on matchday 5 clash hero, Sadeeq Yusuf for saving the day for his side against hard-fighting opponents, Warri Wolves.
The Owena Whales piped the Seasiders 1-0 in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 5 matchup at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
Both sides were almost about sharing the spoils before Yusuf’s stoppage time goal handed the Akure side the whole three points at stake.
Ogunbote said it would have been a huge setback for his side ambition in the on-going top-flight to forfeit valuable points in a row.
“I’m happy Sadeeq Yusuf saved the day for us, the match was almost heading to a draw before his crucial stoppage time goal, I pray he continues with his goal exploit.
“Yes, it was victory at last, it was a hard earned one and it would have been a big setback if we did not get the three points. Remember we drew 2-2 with Lobi Stars in our immediate last home match.
“I salute the courage, determination and resilience of the players to produce results even in the most excruciating moment.
“I knew we were going to have a little challenge as regards fatigue. We are making best use of the situation we have found ourselves,” said the former Enyimba and Enugu Rangers tactician.
Sunshine Stars are 11th on the 20-team top-flight log on seven points five behind leaders, Rivers United.
The Akure landlords will be the guests of highly enterprising side, Dakkada FC in NPFL matchday 6 on Sunday, January 24, 2021 in Uyo.
