Oparanozie explains mission at Dijon FCO

Nigerian striker, Désiré Oparanozie has said her main mission at new club side, Dijon Football Cote d’Or (Dijon FCO) is to help the top-flight French team achieve great heights in the upcoming Ligue 1 season.

The former Nigerian captain and Guingamp goal queen on Tuesday (June 30) sealed a two-year deal with the Dijon-based side, according to a statement from the team.

The Nigerian star spent six years with Guingamp, another club in France.

Oparanozie expressed deep delight in starting a new football adventure with the club and in a familiar clime.

“Officially, I am now a Dijonnais. I am very happy starting a new adventure with this club,” she tweeted on her handle.

“The object is to help my new team attain greater heights. Come on Dijonnais,” she said.

The French side, Dijon FCO enthused that Oparanozie’s arrival is part of efforts to “strengthen its workforce for the 2020/2021 season.”

Dijon head coach, Yannick Chandioux described her as “powerful,” adding that her experience will be invaluable to the club.

“In addition to her experience and joie de vivre,” the coach told the club’s website, “Désiré has a fairly important athletic profile, she is powerful. She is a player who knows almost everything and who should be invaluable,” he said.

Dijon finished ninth on the 12-team top-flight log last season, 14 points 30 adrift of champions, Lyon. The French leagues were cancelled due to the global outbreak of coronavirus.
