Nigerian attacker, Victor Osimhen is poised to accomplish himself when the Super Eagles face the Leone Stars in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier on Friday.
The Super Eagles currently top Group L with maximum points amassed from their opening two games.
Gernot Rohr’s Eagles defeated Benin’s Squirrels 2-1 in Uyo on match day one of qualifying decided on November 13, 2019 before adding a second consecutive victory against Lesotho, four day later in Maseru.
Osimhen who has netted two league goals for Italian club, SSC Napoli is now looking to replicate similar heroics for his country against the Sierra Leoneans.
“I am looking forward to the game and I am really happy,” Osimhen told reporters in Benin. “The (entire Nigeria) squad is also forward to the game on Friday.
“Nigerians should expect victory from the team but they should also know that the game will not be easy.
“We have to prepare well and we have been doing that in the last few days. It is good to be back in the squad and we are all ready for the game on Friday. We will give our all for the win”
Friday’s game at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City will be played without any fans and Osimhen admits that while the fans will be missed, their absence will be understandable.
“It is disappointing but we understand the COVID situation. It is important for the fans to support us from home or anywhere they are.
“For their presence not to be felt in the stadium is disappointing but we understand the situation so it is fine.”
Osimhen has netted four times in nine appearances for Nigeria at senior level.
