Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted Arsenal’s opener in the 21st minute of Tuesday night’s (July 9) clash with Leicester City but the game was turned on its head when Eddie Nketia got the marching orders in the 75th minute with a quarter of an hour remaining.
Leicester duly pressed home their numerical advantage and got back on level terms in the 84th minute with Jamie Vardy prodding home Damarai Gray’s cross.
The Foxes thus dropped to fourth on the Premier League standings having amassed 59 points from 34 matches. Arsenal stay in seventh, nine points adrift of the Champions League qualifying spots having played the same number of matches.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chelsea won a cracking contest, 3-2 at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace, to move up to third. Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham were the goalscorers for the Blues while the Eagles’ consolation strikes were netted by Wilfred Zaha and Christian Benteke.
Watford virtually confirmed Norwich City’s relegation place with a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road. Emiliano Buendia scored the game’s opener for the visitors but the hosts roared back with goals from Craig Dawson and Danny Welbeck. Norwich remain bottom of the standings with 21 points from 34 games while Watford stay in 17th, four points clear of the drop zone.
