Real Madrid won the 2019/20 La Liga title Thursday night (July 16) with one game to go, after beating Villarreal 2-1 at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.
This was Real’s 34th La Liga title win as they headed into their last game with a huge seven-point lead.
Karim Benzema scored both goals, the first a shot between the legs of Sergio Asenjo in the 29th minute and the second a retaken penalty in the 76th minute, making this the 10th successive win for Real Madrid since the restart.
Villareal pulled one back through Vicente Iborra with a powerful header in the 86th minute and a Marco Asensio goal would have made it 3-3 but it was ruled out by VAR VAR in injury-time.
