Second position is failure for Enyimba – Osho

Enyimba manager, Fatai Osho has said that coming second would be outright failure for the two-time African champions in their upcoming clash against Sudanese giants, Al-Merrikh Sporting Club.

The People’s Elephant have a date with the Sudanese champions on Wednesday (December 23) in Omdurman, Sudan. The match is the first leg of a first-round clash in the Caf Champions League.

Osho said a quest for glory by players in the Nigerian multiple-champion team would push those who were prepared to take on the greatest responsibility, to the fullest.

“Honestly, I will tell you that Enyimba is one of the few African teams that second position is considered an outright failure.

“You have to win every now and then and I’m so happy with that because it enhances one’s winning mentality and that has really helped me as a football coach.

“I realise I can win anywhere because that’s the way people here think, they think positively at any given time.

“They always remind or tell you the reason why you must win and along the line it’s becoming a normalcy with me.

“I think it’s a good thing if those people before me had won it twice why not it will be a thing of pride after a long while if I can add one more to the title.

“That’s a lofty dream, we have to take the step one after the other starting with the clash against traditional side, AL-Merrikh of Sudan.

“Al-Merrikh is a traditional team in Africa with rich pedigree in Africa’s interclub competition.

“We know that our preparation must be top-notch for us to subdue them in the two-legged match and that’s what we have done within the toughest situation we found ourselves.

“We believe quite well that we will really compete favourably against them starting on Wednesday in Omdurman before the reverse fixture clash later in Nigeria in January,” said the former Remo Stars tactician.

Winners of the two-legged encounter will advance to the lucrative group stage of Africa’s prime club competition.
