This timeless wisdom from William Shakespeare perfectly encapsulates the extraordinary journey of Boma Abinye Willie-Pepple and his groundbreaking invention, Bomsy Wall Tennis (BWT). What began as a simple act of playing tennis against a wall in his backyard has blossomed into a global movement poised to redefine the world of racket sports.
In 2021, Boma started playing lawn tennis against the wall at home — not just for leisure, but as a fitness routine recommended by his doctors. Little did he know that this casual exercise would spark an idea destined for global relevance. Fast forward to December 2023, when Boma embarked on a period of fasting and prayer, asking God for an inspiration that would leave an indelible mark on the world. In February 2024, that prayer was answered.
As Boma practiced his usual tennis routine, he received a spark of inspiration: a game that would be innovative, exciting, and accessible to everyone. And so, Bomsy Wall Tennis was born. With creativity and focus, he developed the concept, introducing a Hit Target Zone on the wall, interspersed with numbers ranging from 1 — 10, including Star Target Numbers (like 3³, 5D, and 7D) that added an extra layer of challenge and fun. With the court divided into zones — the “no-play zone,” the middle court, and the high-stakes “banger zone” — players earn points, by targeting the numbers on the Hit Target Zone, depending on their accuracy and positioning.
Determined to perfect his invention, Boma sought advice from professional tennis players Obiora and Yobo, who helped refine the game’s rules. By March 2024, BWT was formally launched, complete with copyrights and trademarks in Nigeria and the United States.
*The Rise of Bomsy Wall Tennis*
From its modest beginnings, BWT has quickly gained traction, starting with a successful test run at Dietams International School in Port Harcourt. The response was overwhelmingly positive, paving the way for partnerships with schools, organizations, and sports communities. A key milestone was its adoption by Rivers State University (RSU) as an official sport during their Postgraduate Students Association Sports Week. RSU even erected a dedicated BWT court, making it the first university in the world to officially recognize the sport.
BWT’s appeal is universal. It’s easy to install, requires minimal space, and is suitable for all ages and gender. Its health benefits are remarkable, promoting mind alertness, focus, physical and emotional well-being, and many more, besides. The sport has already been introduced to recreational centres, radio stations and over twelve schools in Port Harcourt alone, expanding also to some schools in Lagos, Abuja, and beyond.

The BWT team is relentless in their pursuit of growth. The first Inter-school Tournament, the BWT Valentine Cup, will be held in Rivers State in February 2025, with similar tournaments planned for Lagos, Abuja, and even other African countries later in the year. They are also in discussions with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for a national collaboration, ensuring the sport’s visibility and accessibility.
