Usman Abdallah has left his role as head coach of Wikki Tourists FC, 16 months after he took charge of the Bauchi club, due to alleged interference from the management of the club.
The ‘Giant Elephants’ have not been in the best form recently, a run that has seen them drop points in eight of their last 10 games, winning only twice in what were home games.
Wikki have also suffered back-to-back defeats since the restart of the 2020-21 Nigeria Professional Football League, recording losses to Katsina United and Nasarawa United, conceding seven goals and scoring twice.
Following the latest home defeat to Nasarawa at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, chairman of the club Douglas Balarabe reportedly decided that the salaries of the players and the officials will be cut by 50 per cent if they fail to beat Plateau United in their next NPFL game in Jos.
Reports have stated that the move by the chairman made Abdallah unhappy.
According to 234football, a source close to Abdallah blamed the poor leadership of the club’s hierarchy led to his exit.
The source stated, according 234football: “I can confirm that [Usman] Abdallah has resigned.
“All has not been well here [at Wikki Tourists]. The coach hasn’t been allowed to do his job, even in recruiting players.
“When anything goes bad, they blame the coach. Abdallah cannot perform magic. Match bonuses have not been paid for a while. Players have had salaries slashed unnecessarily without any reason.Traveling allowances of players and officials have been slashed, too.”
Efforts by SPNAfricaNews to reach Abdallah to confirm the development and reports proved abortive.
Wikki Tourists currently sit 15th on the log after amassing just 24 points from 21 matches, they will travel to Jos to face Plateau United this Sunday.
