There is all to play for as the 2020-21 German Bundesliga season enters the final stage and what better way to welcome club football back than a title showdown.
RasenBallsport Leipzig and FC Bayern München will lock horns at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday in a match which could blow the title race wide open or seal it.
RasenBallsport Leipzig are four points adrift off Bayern München and Julian Nagelsman’s side will fancy their chances due to an injury to Bayern’s star man, Robert Lewandowski.
Bayern München’s hopes of finishing the season strongly were dealt a big blow during the international break. Robert Lewandowski will be out of action for four week due to a knee injury. The Polish striker has netted 35 times this season and he will be a massive void to fill as Bayern hope to end their domestic and European journey on a high.
Hansi Flick’s side have amassed 61 points this season but they will be missing Lewandowski goals in the coming weeks and it could decide their season starting with the game against Leipzig this weekend and their UEFA Champions League clash with PSG.
Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt will lock horns at the Signal Iduna Park in another standout fixture this weekend.
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland has been hugging the headlines as top clubs continue to circle around the Norwegian but all rumours and distractions will be thrown out the window as this fixture could have serious effects on either side’s season.
Frankfurt are fourth on the log having amassed 47 points already. They are four points above Dortmund who are fifth.
Dortmund have a UEFA Champions League blockade in the shape of Manchester City and maybe winning the Champions League to secure a spot in Europe’s premiere club competition will be difficult as ever.
Dortmund’s only option is qualifying through the league. They will rely on Erling Haaland’s goals and Jadon Sancho’s creativity to help them scale through the challenge.
Third placed VfL Wolfsburg are hoping to secure a Champions League spot for next season and they are eight points above Dortmund in fifth.
Wolfsburg will play host to struggling 1. FC Köln.
Köln are in the relegation playoff spot in 16th and they are hoping to beat the drop. A win against Wolfsburg will raise the belief and confidence in the Köln camp.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen will play host to FC Schalke 04.
Schalke 04 are shockingly the whipping boys of the season. They have recorded just one win in their 26 games this season and are heavily tipped to drop to the second division.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen are eyeing a European spot. They are sixth on the log and are seven points behind Frankfurt who occupies the final Champions League spot.
Seventh placed Union Berlin will entertain Hertha Berlin.
Hertha Berlin are also involved in the relegation fight. They are 14th with 24 points, one point off the drop zone.
SC Freiburg will travel to Borussia Park to face Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Borussia Mönchengladbach and Freiburg are hoping to finish the season strongly as both teams are neither tipped to get relegated nor get a European place next season.
VfB Stuttgart completes the top half of the standings as they currently occupy ninth place after recording 26 points.
Stuttgart will host 12th placed Werder Bremen.
Two places and one point is what separates 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Augsburg.
11th placed Hoffenheim will welcome 13th placed FC Augsburg.
1. FSV Mainz 05 and Arminia Bielefeld are also involved in the battle for survival.
Mainz 05 are currently 15th with 24 points on the Bundesliga standings and Arminia Bielefeld are in the relegation waters. Bielefeld are placed 17th with 22 points. Both teams will lock horns on Saturday.
