President of Germany’s Football Federation (DFB) Fritz Keller has taken the time to reflect on Germany’s disastrous 6-0 loss to Spain in the UEFA Nations League. Ferran Torres netted a hattrick to inflict help Spain inflict on Germany their worst ever loss in a competitive game.
DFB supremo Keller was understandably crestfallen and duly issued a statement on behalf of the federation.
“We had a black evening in Seville yesterday that hurt,” the statement read. “The spectators at home, myself, the coach, the players. I was in the locker room after the final whistle and I felt everyone’s extreme disappointment. Our young team can grow from this severe setback if this game is thoroughly analyzed and the necessary conclusions are drawn.”
Keller, however, insisted that the side that lost heavily on Tuesday night (November 17) has potential as there are many young players in the team.
“The team has the potential. We made a conscious decision to start an upheaval with many new and young players with perspective,” he added.
“This path, as you saw yesterday, can be rocky and also lead to painful defeats.
“Our challenge remains to form a strong team for the next three major tournaments: the European Championship in the coming year, the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 European Championship in our own country.”
