Lopetegui leads Sevilla to sixth Europa League title

Sevilla have won the Europa league on an amazing night in Cologne, Germany after beating Inter Milan 3-2 to take their record tally to 6 Europa league titles.

It was a night of redemption for Sevilla’s Coach, Julen Lopetegui, whose career faced so much uncertainty after he was sacked as coach of Spain on the eve of the Russia 2018 Fifa World Cup. He has now rebuilt his reputation with Sevilla’s amazing run and title – their sixth Europa League final in 14 years.

Romelu Lukaku was a key actor in a thrilling night full of drama with the Belgian winning and scoring a penalty to put Inter ahead, after being brought down by Diego Carlos.

It was Lukaku’s 34th goal of the season and his form in front of goal in the Europa League was further enriched with his 11th league goal.

Sevilla equalised through Luuk de Jong’s header from a cross by Jesus Navas and the Dutchman would put the Spaniards ahead through another header, this time from a cross from Ever Banega’s, before Diego Godin equalized for Inter.

Romelu Lukaku’s was to have the last say when he deflected Diego Carlos’ bicycle kick into his own net for Sevilla’s 3rd and winning goal.
