Enyimba striker, Victor Mbaoma has described as crucial his side expected fierce matchup against the Libyan opposite, Al-Ahly Benghazi.
The nation’s flag-bearers in the CAF Confederation Cup are guests of the North African side in Thursday’s Group A matchday 5 clash at the 10,550 seats Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya. The match will come up 22 hours Nigerian time.
Recall that the opening group clash between the sides at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, Nigeria ended 2-1 in favour of the Nigerian representatives.
The Aba side will however depart the nation’s shores for the crucial clash on Tuesday’s night on a chartered flight after attempts to leave early on regular flight failed.
Mbaoma said a win or draw is important in Benghazi to keep the dreams of qualification from the group alive prior to the final clash at home against the South African side, Orlando Pirates.
“Yes, we are very sensitive to the importance of the match at Al-Ahly Benghazi towards qualifying from the group.
“Despite the hiccups preceding the matchup we know anything short of outright win or at least a draw will not be good for us.
“The group is tight and open so we must try something differently from what we have done in the past failed away matches.
“Our home record is okay but we cannot rely solely on it to chance qualification from the group, a win or draw is crucial to keep hope alive till the last match against Orlando Pirates.
“The Libyan opponents will equally chance their qualification too with a positive result so we have steeled ourselves for the toughest challenge in the group’s games,” said the former Akwa United marksman to SPNAfricaNews.
Mbaoma promised to add to his goal tally in the continent to the overall success of the side in the battle of Benghazi.
“Of course, my job is to score so I pray I score and help the team to a resounding victory,” said the former Remo Stars goal poacher.
The two-time Africa champions are second on the four-team Group A log on six points two behind leaders, Orlando Pirates with a game against the South African side on home soil on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 to wrap up the campaign.
Two top teams will progress to the knockout stage of Africa’s second tier inter-club competition at the completion of group’s matches.
