Pelican Stars head coach, Sanusi Muritala Olaleke has promised to return the side to winning ways against visiting side and former champions, Nasarawa Amazons.
The Calabar side are host of the Lafia landladies in Wednesday’s (March 10) Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) matchday 9 clash at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
Both top-flights had mixed fortune in their immediate past NWFL matchday 8 encounters heading into the midweek matchup, while the hosts slumped to 1-4 defeat at Sunshine Stars in Akure the visitors recorded an emphatic 2-0 win against Osun Queens in Lafia.
Olaleke said his side have pushed behind them the hurtful bashing at Sunshine Stars to pay undivided attention at winning the clash against visiting Nasarawa Amazons.
“We are damn ready for the clash against visitors, Nasarawa Amazons on Wednesday in Calabar.
“Of course, once a match is played whether win, lose or draw you forget whatever it is to focus on the next match.
“The key is to know your mistakes, we have known our mistakes why we lost heavily at Sunshine Stars, we have talked to ourselves, what is on ground right now is for them to go all out to make the team proud.
“That’s what is on ground and the players are prepared and ready to go out there to show class with their performance.
“I think we are going to get our three points this time around to permanently bury the hurtful memories of the Sunshine Stars’ defeat,” said Olaleke.
The Pelican Stars gaffer said a lot has improved for the side now compared with when the league commenced.
“One thing about team at times preparation matters a lot, if you have good preparation and incentive you get good result but when your preparation is not totally okay you hardly meet your target.
“Right now there is a lot of attention and improvement on the part of government, if that is maintained the Pelican Stars’ spirit in the premiership will come back fully.
“For this on-going season we just want to maintain the status quo by next season we will be talking of winning the league.
“This season is to stabilize the team, maintain the standard, stay okay and next season we fight for the title,” said Olaleke.
The former champions are 12th on the 14-team NWFL Premiership log on poorly five points 16 behind league leaders, Bayelsa Queens.
