OM School in Nigeria completes first Open Day

A partnership between French team Olympique Marseille and Nigerian sports companies took another step forward on Saturday (May 15) as parents and guardians of students enrolled at the Olympique Marseille (OM) School, in the southern city of Port Harcourt, gathered at the Uniport Sports Institute in Rivers State for the first open day.

The event was the first of three, with two more open days – on Saturday, May 22nd and Saturday, May 29 – this month.

The director of the OM School, Emeka Enyadike, coordinated proceedings. Parents and guardians were also able to discuss future plans for their children with the officials of the academy and were also provided with explanations of what the OM School Port Harcourt programs will be all about. Football academies are burgeoning in Nigeria as parents increasingly recognise the opportunities offered to their children by footballing careers.

Parent Franklin Azunda told OM School media that he was certain his son will get the best following his affiliation with the school.
“I brought him here so that he will practice and excel in future,” he said.
“I gave him the name ‘Martins’, so he will be named after Obafemi Martins.
“He [Obafemi Martins] is a tough player and when I had my son, I named him Martins so that he will excel.
“I saw that the school is going to be a gigantic institution that will help players to move to other countries like Germany or France.
“I encourage other parents to bring their children here because there is a lot here to make them excel.”

The OM School, Nigeria kicks off in June 2021, in Port Harcourt.
