Poland’s top football league, the Ekstraklasa will resume on May 29.
The country’s Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki said the Polish football season could restart at the end of May behind closed doors.
Poland’s Ekstraklasa was suspended in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have a specific plan to get to the first match of the Ekstraklasa (first division), which could take place towards the end of May,” Morawiecki said.
“The first blow of the whistle isn’t going to happen anytime soon,” he warned, telling reporters the decision was the result of discussions with the sports and health ministers, as well as sporting organisations,” the Minister concluded.
Players have been in isolation since the league was put on hold in mid-March and will be able to resume training shortly, under strict health guidelines.
The pandemic shut down football all over Europe just over a month ago, but has developed in different ways across various countries.
Many are now moving towards Phase 2, easing the lock down measures, and that means the ability to resume training and play games.
The Polish Prime Minister announced in a press conference this morning that the Ekstraklasa league will be allowed to host matches behind closed doors from the end of May.
This is also roughly the time frame adopted by Italy, Spain and Germany.
