Rojo set for Manchester United return

Marcos Rojo is likely to return to Manchester United as the Red Devils look to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, according to Estudiantes boss, Leandro Desabato. Rojo joined four-time Copa America champions on loan from United, in January.

The defender originally joined Manchester United from Portuguese giants Sporting CP but has struggled for playing time at Old Trafford. He made just 10 appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side before being allowed to head back to Argentina on loan during the winter window.  His return did not go as planned, with an ankle injury preventing him from making an impact before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

The Estudiantes boss said that as United are now looking to call on as many stars as possible for the restart of the Premier League season, it now looks a certainty that they will want Rojo to help them with squad rotation for a manic end to the season.
“We have to wait, but Rojo is likely to leave,” he told FM Radio Late 93.1.
“The loan is due, and if Manchester do not want to continue loaning, it’s understandable,” Desabato said.

While Rojo will be enlisted to help United secure Champions League football in the final few weeks of the season, it is still a possibility that he will be leave the club after the campaign. Both Estudiantes and Boca Juniors have been linked with a permanent move for the centre-back, with reports suggesting the Premier League side are willing to offload him for £12 million.
