Caicedo denies Ronaldo winner as Lazio strike late

Cristiano Ronaldo was denied the winner as Felipe Caicedo struck late to earn Lazio a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Juventus on Sunday (November 8).

It was Ronaldo’s first start in Serie A since September 27 following the unfortunate incidents that led to him contracting COVID 19 while on international duty.

The Portuguese superstar had netted twice when coming off the bench in Juventus’ previous game in Serie A, a 4-1 success against Spezia at Orogel Stadium-Dino Manuzzi, Cesena and he needed only a quarter of an hour to get off the mark at the Olimpico as he turned home Juan Cuadrado’s low cross from the right from close range.

It looked like Ronaldo’s effort would represent the winner in a tight contest but the home side hit back in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time through Caicedo, who latched onto Joaquin Correa’s assist to power home the equalizer. Juventus have now dropped eight points in seven games this season and currently occupy third spot in the league standings with 13 points, three adrift of the leaders AC Milan, who have played a game less.
