Five-time Europa Cup winners, Sevilla have qualified for another final, coming from behind to beat Manchester United 2-1 in Cologne – to the delight of their manager, Julen Lopetegui who showed a great deal of respect for United before the game.
Sevilla will face the winner of the second semifinals between Inter Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk in the finals next Friday.
Bruno Fernandez put United ahead via a penalty in the 9th minute but while United created many more chances than the Spaniards, they were repeatedly frustrated by the outstanding Yassine Bounou in goal for Sevilla.
Sevilla equalized through the impressive Suso after the former Liverpool forward connected with Sergio Reguilon’s cross on 26 minutes.
United conceded late in the game and it was another former Premier League player – former Newcastle forward, Luuk de Jong – who this time snuck through Wanbisaka and Lindelhof to stab the ball beyond David de Gea as the United defence struggled to deal with the cross from former Manchester City winger, Jesus Navas in the 78th minute.
