Amokachi appointed Presidential Sports Adviser

Former Nigeria International and current Nigerian  Football  Ambassador,  Daniel Amokachi has bagged another political appointment in Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari approved his appointment as the new Special Assistant on Sports.

This was announced in a letter released by Nigerian Government Secretary, Boss Mustapha which stated as follows:

”I am pleased to inform you that Mohammadu Buhari, President of the  Federal  Republic of Nigeria has approved your appointment as Special Assistant on Sports. The appointment  takes effect from the 11th of August, 2020.” 

Amokachi will be required to advise the President on sports-related issues.

Since retiring from football almost 20 years ago, Amokachi has been assistant National Football Coach, and National Coach at various times and was assistant to Stephen Keshi when Nigeria won Afcon 2013 and also at Brazil 2014 FIFA world cup.

Amokachi enjoyed a stellar football career, starting with Ranchers Bees of Kaduna as a high school student and earning his National Cap for the Super Eagles at 17 when he played for Nigeria at Afcon 1990. He won a silver medal at Afcon before moving to Club Brugge in Belgium and later Everton in the Premier League and Besiktas in Turkey, before ending his career at Colorado Rapids in the USA.

He represented Nigeria at the USA 94 and France 98 FIFA World Cup and also won the Afcon 94 and Atlanta 96 Olympic Gold medal

Amokachi has also enjoyed prime time-space as a football pundit on SuperSport and many national and international platforms.

He was recently Coach and later Technical Director of Oulu Football Club in Finland and brand ambassador of numerous brands.

His foundation and other charity causes have made “the Bull” – as his more affectionate fans call him – a Nigerian hero around the world.
